Tessellation- The Art of Islamic Geometric Design

Tessellation is a  pattern of shapes that fit perfectly together. A Tessellation also called Tiling is when you cover a surface with a pattern of flat shapes so that there are no overlaps or gaps. Islamic artists have been creating beautiful geometric designs for hundreds of years. They have been used to decorate buildings, mosques, minerets, carpets, paintings etc. A tessellation has no negative space i.e. the entire surface is covered.  We can see different pattern formation depending upon the angle of our view. Some Tessellation patterns create illusion, 3-D effects as well.  There are two types of tessellations:
                                            Regular  Tessellation                             Irregular Tessellation
